Story

Four kids make a mysterious discovery on their home planet that leads them to become stranded in a strange and dangerous galaxy. Jude Law in “Skeleton Crew” and other stars from a galaxy far, far away. The holographic circus that entertains Neel’s younger siblings is the same one Chewbacca’s family sees in the infamous “Star Wars Holiday Special” (1978).

Skeleton Crew begins in the suburbs

Skeleton Crew is a children’s television series. And that’s okay, because Star Wars has often been geared towards kids, and why shouldn’t there be a Star Wars-themed children’s show? But this isn’t a children’s series geared towards adults, like “Stranger Things” or “Paper Girls.” Rather, it’s a show specifically geared towards ten-year-olds and no one else.

So that was an interesting twist for a moment or two

It’s the suburbs in the Star Wars universe, but if you take away the robots and aliens, it could be where I grew up. Unfortunately, these suburbs are populated by boring characters with uninteresting problems. And yes, everything is set up for the big moment at the end of the first episode, but I was so bored with that first episode that I only started to move on halfway through, and even the final act just felt, well.

So that’s all I’ve seen

Will things get better when Jude Law shows up? Maybe. But I figure if the first episode of a series is so boring that I can’t finish it, it’s probably not going to get better anytime soon.
